Vincent never imagined how much his life would change when he and three of his coworkers were summoned to an impromptu work meeting. A meeting that wasn’t a meeting at all. Locked in an elevator, he and the others must do everything possible to survive what they’ve now come to know as the escape room.
Who’s behind their ordeal is unknown to them. If they’re to succeed in achieving their freedom, while making sense of the cryptic clues left behind, he and the others must place their trust in one another. Doing so, however, is easier said than done. Most especially when it comes to the secrets each of them harbors deep inside.
A cryptic thriller, The Escape Room doesn’t disappoint. It gives the reader fuel for every thought, pushing us toward turning the next page. I love the fact that the story keeps us guessing at every turn. We’re presented with characters so flawed that you can’t help but feeling for all of them once all is said and done.
Megan has laid a foundation for a story that might seem mundane, yet it isn’t. We’re able to dig further into each character and the circumstances that surround them at every turn. There are, however, more questions than answers by the time we get to end of the book. Quite a few things felt like they weren’t resolved.
I would have loved to know what happens next at the very end once the escape room’s journey ends. Alas, we may never know. Perhaps someday we’ll get a continuation of this intriguing book. We can hope, right? Overall, this book is definitely worth reading.
SYNOPSIS
‘Welcome to the escape room. Your goal is simple. Get out alive.’
In the lucrative world of Wall Street finance, Vincent, Jules, Sylvie and Sam are the ultimate high-flyers. Ruthlessly ambitious, they make billion-dollar deals and live lives of outrageous luxury. Getting rich is all that matters, and they’ll do anything to get ahead.
When the four of them become trapped in an elevator escape room, things start to go horribly wrong. They have to put aside their fierce office rivalries and work together to solve the clues that will release them. But in the confines of the elevator the dark secrets of their team are laid bare. They are made to answer for profiting from a workplace where deception, intimidation and sexual harassment thrive.
Tempers fray and the escape room’s clues turn more and more ominous, leaving the four of them dangling on the precipice of disaster. If they want to survive, they’ll have to solve one final puzzle: which one of them is a killer?
