The thought of returning to Nusstead terrifies Marianne to no end. She left it all behind so long ago. Now, however, she’s forced to set foot in the town once more. Her mind roils with thoughts about the secrets she left behind. Secrets that were supposed to remain buried. There are those, however, who refuse to let the past remain in the past. If she’s to succeed in a making a life for herself now that she’s returned, she’ll need to deal with everything that’s coming at her from left to right.
If you haven’t read any of Erin’s books yet, I totally recommend them. She’s got an awesome way with words. Trust me when I say so. Every word she weaves allows the reader to fully envision the characters, the environments they find themselves in, as well as the things they do at every turn.
In Stone Mothers, we’re presented with Marianne, a woman who left it all behind in the hopes of making a new life for herself. Imagine her surprise when her husband tells her they’ll be moving back to her home town. The thought of doing so is mind-boggling, something she can’t quite process.
I enjoyed the way Erin showed us Marianne’s horror in going home again. This is a woman who’s done something unimaginable. A woman who’s carried her secrets close throughout years, never once thinking about the fact that someone might push those secrets into the light again. She’s broken, full of pain and heartache, unable to fully deal with the repercussions of what she did so long ago. And yet, she does.
Erin has given this character the means to do what needs to be done. Every step of the way, she shows us who and what Marianne is like. The veneer that surrounds her is cracking. We get to see it happen with every turn of the page. Love the vivid pictures Erin paints within every story she writes. Stone Mothers is just as vivid and thrilling as her other books.
Will Marianne achieve an end to her own means? Or will she crack under the pressure? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Trust me, it’s so worth the read in discovering Marianne’s every secret.
