I love the way S. M. has taken the mermaid lore and turned it into something so unique and believable. We’re presented with a complex world. One where its citizens live under water, unsure if whether the dome that holds the sky above will break at any time. Mind you, Aven and those living in the world aren’t aware of the true aspects of what the sky really is. They’ve been instructed from an early age to maintain the ‘sky,’ else the world as they know will be torn asunder.
This is such a refreshing and lovingly crafted world. One where nothing is as it seems. Will Aven unite the scattered kingdoms? Or will her quest to save the world end up being her own undoing? Only time will tell. So can’t wait to see what else S. M. has in store for us with Aven and the others.
