Michael: Clearing up some misunderstandings

Michael, the hero of the dark paranormal Dead to Rights, agreed to an interview.

Tell us about your family.

In the traditional sense, I have none. Created at the dawn of time, I consider the other archangels my family.

Who should play you in a film?

Funny you should ask. Cate Masters, who wrote Dead to Rights, has a blog series called Casting Call, in which she reveals which actors would best suit each character. For Dead to Rights, she imagined Sam Worthington as me. Okay, the guy’s an impressive actor who can handle action scenes, but female hormones always soar around him. I’m not sure I’m comfortable with that, really. You can check out the entire cast on Cate’s blog: http://catemasters.blogspot.com/2011/07/casting-call-dead-to-rights.html

What would we find hidden in your closet?

Good question. I haven’t looked in there in a few centuries. Probably some tunics in need of mending, but the angel in charge of that department always gives me grief when I use their services. Swordplay tends to be hard on the wardrobe, if you know what I mean.

Are you a morning person or a nIght person?

An irrelevant question, since I don’t sleep, and we have neither night nor morning up here. While on Earth, I am awake round the clock.

What do you think makes a good story?

Engaging characters, a compelling story line. I’m personally a fan of stories about angels, so it helps to include warrior angels, especially the seraphim. They’re awesome.

DTR BCWhat are your favorite movies?

Dogma always makes me laugh. Casting Alanis Morissette as God – genius. And of course, the movie Michael. John Travolta captured some of my less polished moments, but overall, an enjoyable flick.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Dancing to rock music. I get such a decadent feeling, letting myself go with the heavy beat, pure physical pleasure. Someday I hope to take Tess dancing.

What is your favorite meal?

Definitely not mass-produced meals the New Day Order serves. But on previous trips to Earth, I had a chance to try some human food, and always enjoy sampling dishes from every culture. Hands down, pizza is the best.

If you could apologize to someone in your past, who would it be?

Tess. I’m mortified that such a switch of souls could have occurred, even if planned for millennia. I intend to make it up to her for eternity.

What are you passionate about these days?

Eradicating the New Day Order from existence, of course. And making sure Tess is all right. That’s why I stay so close to her side. Really. No other reason.

Do you play any sports?

I’m a warrior angel. I love all sports. We have some great aerial games above, but they’re pretty complex to explain. Suffice it to say they’re beyond Extreme Sports, and you’d be amazed.

What makes you happy?

Seeing Tess smile is the closest I’ve come to true happiness. Of course, expelling demons from the world is very gratifying, and brings great satisfaction. But I’ve never experienced the sensation of happiness until Tess smiled at me.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

I’m a softie. Sure, I can sever a demon’s head without a thought, but sentimental old movies make me cry.
