Hi, Kimberly. Welcome to my blog. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us.

Would you take a moment and introduce yourself to us?

I’m Kimberly Kinrade, an author of children and YA paranormal and fantasy, mom of three and soul mate to one.

How long have you been writing?

I was born with ink in my veins and magic in my heart and I’ve been writing since I could pick up a pen. I started selling my short stories to neighbors when I ran out of teeth to sell to the Tooth Fairy. (True story!)

Your most recent book, Lexie World, is now available for lending on Amazon Prime, would you mind telling us a little more about it?

Lexie World is the first book in the Three Lost Kids series and was inspired by my three little girls who ‘discovered’ worlds named after them. Lexie, of course, discovered Lexie World and the book deals with struggles the real life Lexie faces.

I wanted to write some book my girls could read now, and also give other kids a series of books that bridge the gab between chapter books and illustrated children’s books. In this series, you get both!

How did you come up with the idea for the book?

As I said, my kids really came up with the ideas, at least for the worlds. They also helped me and my illustrator, Josh, brainstorm the characters in each book. In Lexie World, Lexie wanted Unicorns, and she wanted the theme to be caring for the Earth.

The girls also came up with the Garbage Goblins!

What type of research, if any, did you do for the book?

Most of this book was inspired by the imaginations of myself, my kids, and Josh.

FM BCYour usual genre is that of Paranormal and Short Stories – was it difficult to transition to writing a Children’s Book?

In most ways, no. You still follow the basic structure of good story-telling. I enjoyed creating multi-layered themes so that kids, as they grow, can find different elements of the story to appreciate. The hardest part was writing in the point of view of a 5-year-old! I tried to capture Lexie’s personality and also write in a prose that challenges young readers to advance their reading skills.

Do you have any upcoming projects that you’ve the liberty of telling us about?

Bella World is now finished (book 2 in the series) and will launch January 23rd, and Josh and I are working on Maddie World. I’m also finishing Forbidden Fire, book 2 of the Forbidden series for (hopefully) a March launch. It’s all very exciting. In addition, I have a short story coming out (Son of Destiny) and other books planned for Spring launches. It’s going to be a fun year!

How do you find inspiration when trying to write?

The inspiration isn’t the hard part for me. It’s always there. I have more ideas than I know what to do with! For me it’s finding the time and, more importantly, the discipline to sit down and do it.

For that, I remind myself why it is I do this . . . I love writing and love these stories. This is the best job in the world!

What’s/Who has influenced you the most?

At an early age I was influenced by the writing of C.S. Lewis, who has always been one of my favorite authors. I also love Neil Gaiman.

Do you listen to music while writing? If so, what kind?

Sometimes. It depends on my mood and the scene, though my favorites would include Linken Park and Muse.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I used to be a die-hard panster, however, that leads to a lot of problems and a lot of rewriting for me. Now I’m a plotter. Usually I’ll get a feel for the characters and the story, get into the head of my protagonist, then plot out the book chapter by chapter.

BW BCIf there was one Paranormal power that you could have, what would it be and what you do with it?

I’d want the power to heal. With three young children, I’d be using it constantly!

Do you have any recommendations for books that you think the blog’s readers may enjoy?

Check out Patti Larsen’s Family Magic. That whole series is amazing. You’ve got witches, demons and some seriously hot guys vying for the attention of one young witch who would do anything to be normal.

Also, Farsighted by Emlyn Chand for more psychic fun!

Do you have any tips, or thoughts, that you would like to offer to the blog’s readers?

I try to write books that will appeal to every age group. I hope you’ll take the time to check out some of my novels, stories and chapter books. Thank you so much for having me on your blog and thank you, dear readers, for taking the time to learn more about me and my work.

There you have it, Everyone – a lovely interview with Kimberly Kinrade, author of Lexie World and Forbidden Mind. I thank you for the opportunity that you’ve given me to feature you on my blog. I look forward to more of your work and wish you the best of success with all you do.

Synopsis: 5-year-old Lexie is tired of getting in trouble for leaving her stuff and trash outside. She doesn’t mean to litter or ruin her shoes, but it’s just so hard to remember sometimes.

When she, her two big sisters and their dog TayTay find a portal to Lexie World, Lexie discovers the consequence littering has had on her special world. Garbage Goblins have taken over and are destroying the Earth!

To save Lexie World, the girls (and TayTay) must travel with their new Unicorn friend through the Waters of Waste and over the Mountain of Lost Clothes to retrieve a piece of the Mirror of Ice in order to remind the Garbage Goblins of their true form and break their curse.

On this journey, Lexie learns about courage, love and the importance of taking care of her world.

With full color illustrations by Josh Evans, Lexie World bridges the gap between picture books and chapter books, offering children 4-9 years old a new, exciting reading journey.
