Lucid Clarity

Marius BC “Marius . . .”

The voice I heard was music to my ears, a crescendo that reminded me of tinkling wind chimes as they fluttered softly in the wind. It begged me to draw closer, to explore the secrets it promised were hidden deep within my blood.

“Wake up, Marius.”

I wanted to. Oh, God, I really wanted to, but the encroaching darkness refused to allow me the luxury of doing just that. A soft hand pressed against my forehead, the scent of lavender and vanilla tickling my senses. The smell was heavenly. Breathing deeply, I drew it into my lungs so deeply I could taste it. The Pieces Of The Puzzle

Marius BCDisoriented, I awoke to find myself astride the Captain’s bed. The sound of heavy breathing alerted me to someone’s presence within the room. Rolling onto my left side, a wave of vertigo hit me as I swung my legs off of the bed and tried to stand. I fell back as the room spun around before me.

“There’s no use in gettin’ up, laddie,” Erendir replied as he picked up a bowl sitting on a nearby table and strode in my direction. “The gash across the side of yer face needs fixin’.” Continue reading

Following Orders

Marius BCA blast of cold air hit me in the face as I marched into the stables via the hidden entrance. The scene that spread out before me was total chaos. Men were running back and forth grabbing any item they could find to use as a weapon. The stabled horses whinnied fearfully as the soldiers moved about, eager to be released from their confinement.

My gaze settled upon Kimbar’s father as he stood amidst the pandemonium, calmly issuing orders to the men surrounding him. Many dispersed to do as they were bidden, while others appeared out of nowhere to request his immediate attention. His brow furrowed as he sought to understand the significance of what lay before him. His voice stammered as he read the passage aloud. Continue reading

Pressing Matters

Marius BCPressing my thighs against the horse’s side, I urged Doglan to slow down as we neared the palace gates. Homar waved to me from atop the left battlements as he saw me approach. Shouting at someone I couldn’t see, I nodded at him and led my steed forward as the portcullis swung open.

“Good day, Sir Marius,” Shastan Croyle said as I neared the stable doors.

Tossing the reins in his direction, I hopped off of Doglan’s back. “Well met, Shastan. Has my lieutenant returned?”

His knowing gaze twinkled with amusement as he led my horse inside. “Aye. He’s bin back fur ages. Ye can fin’ heem ower yonder.” Continue reading
