Review: Twisted – Holly Hook
Allie isn’t your everyday teenager. A self-professed thrill seeker, she’s decided to spend her summer doing something quite unexpected. Though she’s never chased tornadoes before, she’s definitely up to the task. With her uncle and trusted guide by her side, she knows she’s safe in their hands. Until the moment their adventure takes an unexpected turn. It’s then that everything changes.
Waking up to find herself in a strange place, Allie isn’t sure as to what to make of things. She doesn’t remember how she got there, nor does she know what’s happened to the others. Her fractured dreams have made her question the world around her, leaving her in a state of limbo. To make things worse, the unexpected storms seem to be gathering on the horizon, headed straight for her.
Unable to make sense of what’s going on, Allie does the only thing she can. She runs. She now knows she’s different, and the only way to save herself and those around her is to put as much distance between herself and them. Granted, that’s not the best of ideas, but it’s the only one she’s got going for her, then and there.
As the secrets of her new existence surface, Allie soon realizes there’s more to things than meets the eye. The one person she never thought would always have her back has been keeping things from her. The kicker? He’s supposed to protect her, at all costs. Determined to put a stop to the ensuing chaos, she puts her trust in those she knows she shouldn’t. It’s the only way to stop the coming storm. The question is, will she retain who and what she is when all is said and done?
Twisted . . . Where to begin? Holly’s awesome story hooks you in from the very beginning. The nonstop action tosses you through so many twists and turns that you soon start wondering whether things actually happened. We meet Allie, footloose and fancy-free, living for the thrill of the moment. Holly has created a character that although she’s unsure of what’s going on, at first, she’s still willing to turn things around. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing as to whether she reaches her goal. Will the Deathwind be stopped, once and for all, I wonder?
Sixteen-year-old Allie isn’t like other girls. Instead of spending her summer break sitting around on the beach, she takes the epic vacation of a lifetime.
And she’s not disappointed. Just a few miles from the town of Evansburg, Nebraska, Allie meets her dream of seeing a tornado. In person. She can’t wait to tell her friends back home. Never mind that her parents are going to kill her.
But her dream soon turns into a nightmare, and a strange event leaves her shocked. Confused. When she returns home to Wisconsin, something’s…different. Allie now bears a curse so awful, it could destroy everyone and everything she’s ever known.
With her best friend, Tommy, Allie must return to the plains to find a way to reverse it. She enters a world that she had never imagined, where she becomes a pawn in a fight to save the people of Evansburg from her fate…or to destroy them.
