TSG Button Abandoned at an early age, Ashley has lived almost all of her life in an orphanage. She knows no other life, but yearns to leave her sordid existence every day. The endless doctors parading through her life have made her question everything she knows, as well as her sanity time and time again. Her dreams and unexplained injuries have them baffled, yet she knows she cannot truly reveal to them how they come about. Her only solace is that of her best friend, Tara, who knows her secrets, and has never said a word.

When she and Tara are kidnapped one day, Ashley finds herself a long way from home. Ensconced in a house tucked into the hills of Belize, she begins to wonder if she’s lost her mind. The situation seems much too surreal, yet deep inside she knows she’s not dreaming. Her captors turn out not to be captors at all. They’re her lost and beloved family, intent on helping her catch up on what she needs to know, and prepare her to guard the stone she’s been seeing so much within her dreams. At times, she doubts whether what she’s being told is true, but the certainty she feels deep inside let’s her know that everything is definitely real.

Her nememis, Sarian, is determined to keep her from ever getting hands on her beloved stone. He has plans for it, and needs to unlock its secrets before Ashley can keep his plans from unfolding. In his eyes, it’s the key for him to get his heart’s desires, and more. Yet never once did he take into account the fact that she’ll do whatever is necessary to thwart his plans.

TSG BCWith her uncle’s help, Arwan, Jayden, and several others at their disposal, Ashley begins to set a plan into motion in order to obtain the stone, once and for all. She knows she needs to keep Sarian from using it, before the world’s balance is thrown into limbo. He may have taken everything from her, but she will not let him take the one thing that can keep her grounded to her family’s history. Time is of the essence, and she’ll need to learn everything she hasn’t had time to learn, pronto, if she’s to succeed in becoming the stone’s guardian, and upholding the legacy passed down to her via her mother and her ancestor’s before her.

This was such an awesome read. A very unique and original plot, the book hooked me in from the moment I started reading. I found the action flowed continuously, and didn’t disappoint at any given moment. The blossoming romance between Arwan and Ashley was certainly endearing. The animosity, although amicable, between her and Jayden was also palpable. Kind of makes you want to root for him all the way. I think this is a beautiful start to a great series, and I look forward to what’s to come next. Theresa is definitely an author to keep an eye on!

Synopsis:

Like any other teenager in America, Ashley just wants a normal life. But growing up in an orphanage for the insane is anything but normal. After endless therapy and increasing medication, her nightmares have only gotten worse.

Probably because they’re not nightmares.

When Ashley’s mysteriously abducted, she finds a reality even less normal than the orphanage. And she discovers something else—she’s no ordinary orphan. Faced with enemies thought to only exist in fairy tales, Ashley discovers she possesses a powerful Maya bloodline. She’s the daughter of an ancient Maya Guardian, whose duty is to protect the Stone of Muuk’ich, an enchanted relic blessed by the gods. But first she must get it back from Sarian, a power-hungry demigod who slaughtered the last guardian—Ashley’s mother. Without the stone, all will be lost.

When she meets Arwan, a hot Belizean time bender, his delicious olive skin and dark eyes make her feel a little less alone. But his gentle whispers and reassuring touch might not be all they seem. How can she balance love and duty when it’s up to her to prevent the rising of the underworld? Especially when the guy she loves might be its crown prince…

Having stepped foot on the soil of over a dozen countries, traveled to sixteen U.S. states—including an extended seven-year stay in Kodiak, Alaska—she is anything but settled down. But wherever life brings her, she will continue to weave tales of adventure and love with the hope her stories will bring joy and inspiration to her readers.
