Review: The Moon-Kissed Chi – Grinelda Markowitz
In a society ruled by its erotic energies, a person’s desires defines them. This is a lesson Gayadnae is learning well. Her parents rule the kingdom with a heavy hand, making sure that everyone knows their rightful place. While they do everything they can to make sure their people are content, they don’t quite understand what drives her to do the things she does. Deep inside, she knows they’ll soon discover what sets her apart from everyone else, but she’s not sure if she wants them to.
Ever since she could remember, Gayadnae has been able to draw upon the chi surrounding those she comes across. Most especially the males. It’s not that she wants to. She just can’t help herself in doing so. Granted, she’s not quite trained to do what she’s been doing for so long, but that’s to change in the near future. If her parents have the say so, anyway.
Determined to outrun her destiny, Gayadnae will do everything she can to make sure that her parents don’t send her off to train. In her mind, there are better things the world has to offer. Things she’ll never experience if she’s to be ensconced behind closed doors while learning the art of amassing people’s chi. That very thought displeases her, and she’ll do everything possible to go her own way, including going against her parents wishes.
Refusing to sit still and conform to the ways of the kingdom, Gayadnae sets events into motion that will change her life and those around her. She knows she needs to accept her coming responsibility, to make her family proud. The fragile balance surrounding the kingdom has to be maintained. The question is, can she do what’s right when the time comes while remaining true to who and what she is?
The Moon-Kissed Chi is definitely a quite original erotic and paranormal story. It surrounds a society that is led by their baser desires in hopes of achieving a greatness that can only be maintained between willing partners. With dark forces hovering in the distance, waiting for the moment to strike, Gayadnae and her family have a lot to contend with as it is.
I’ve enjoyed the premise of the story, and do think it has promise as a series, but there were quite a few spots that didn’t really mesh for me. It felt as if I was jumping from one area to the other. I think it would have been nice if more detail/explanations about certain things were provided, like Grayt’s true role, for instance. Overall, it is a unique story that does draw a person’s interest.

In the City of Kalaydan, Arrinay and Bezhyanya, the senior members of the ruling family, are faced with the early maturation of their daughter, Gayadnae. She must start the training. It’s Kalaydan law. Their daughter has other ideas. After concocting a plan to avoid responsibility and almost succeeding in carrying it out, Gayadnae’s life takes an unexpected turn.
Grayt, the ever-present serving woman to Arrinay, fills many roles and has her fingers in a number of pies. There’s definitely more to her than is apparent on the surface. Along with coordinating activities in the Main House, keeping the young mistress in line, and talking to horses, Grayt has a more secret agenda with a graver responsibilities.
A hint of trouble on the horizon and other darker activities weave their way through the backdrop of this delightful tale which takes place in the city of Kalaydan.
