Review: Staring Into The Eyes Of Chance – Kay Dee Royal
After enduring thirty-four years of a passionless marriage, Olivia wants nothing more than to devote the rest of her life to caring for the wildlife refuge she’s been running for years. Her husband’s cheating ways have put her off of men in general and she much prefers the company of her animals. Much to her sisters chagrin, Lacey believes that she needs someone in which to spend the rest of her life with, while Olivia believes her life is fine as it is. Nevertheless, she allows her sister to set her up on a blind date in hopes of getting her off her back, once and for all.
Chance is nothing like what she thought he’d be. He’s beautiful and stirs her senses in ways that no other man ever has. Yet there’s just one tiny problem. He’s been lying to her from the moment she set eyes on him and that is something she will never forgive. Still reeling with the knowledge of her dead husband’s infidelities, she abhors liars. Her new relationship, if you can call it that. with Chance is off to a rocky start and she’s not sure whether she can forgive him for lying to her from the get go.
Detesting the fact that he must keep mum about the secrets he harbors inside, Chance wants nothing more than confide in Olivia about everything that’s going on around them Yet her very safety seals his lips and he can do nothing else but protect her from what’s out there. The only thing he can tell her is that there’s a rogue wolf running rampant upon her property, one he and the organization he works for are intent on capturing. Sadly, that’s easier said than done.
As tensions rise and her sanctuary is threatened further, Olivia can’t understand as to why someone would want to hurt her and her animals. Part of her knows that Chance has something to do with what’s going on, yet she can’t quite put her finger on what that is. Determined to protect everything she loves, she sets out to discover what Chance is keeping from her, but first she must set aside her differences with him if she’s to succeed with her goals.
This was a very intriguing book. While I did like it very much, the ending had a lot of loose ends. I felt that the storyline surrounding Lindsey and Trevor, as well as that of Smoke, were left incomplete and left me with more questions than answers since their situations were left unresolved. I would like to see their stories finished to find out what happens next. Overall, it was a great read and look forward to reading more of Kay Dee’s stories.
