Review: Secrets And Lies – Christine Amsden
Cassie Scot’s life will never be normal. She’s learned that lesson to the fullest, and is now doing her best to come to terms with everything she’s gone through. She’s still smarting from the fact that her parents disowned her. While she doesn’t quite know what brought them to that decision, she sort of understands their plight. She’s different, always has been, and she will never be magical enough for their tastes.
When a new ordeal surfaces, Cassie is forced to work with Evan once again in getting to the bottom of things. She doesn’t really want to. He’s become a thorn in her side, after all. Unfortunately, if she’s going to try and make something of herself, she’s going to need to set aside her differences for the time being. Determined to find the missing girls, she and Evan dive head-first into the heart of matter. They’ve encountered opposition in the past, and they know this time won’t be any different. Never-the-less, they’re going to do everything possible to bring the girls home.
Looking at the case from every possible angle, Cassie soon realizes things are not as clear cut as they seem. Someone is out to make a statement, and they’re using the girls as a means to make it. The unidentified magic user has a game to play, and Cassie’s the main target. Why, she doesn’t know, but she’s going to do everything possible to find out. Even if it means she’ll need to resort to using unconventional methods in order to do so before anything out of the norm happens yet again.
Another great addition to this series! The story picks up where the first book left off, dropping you smack-dab in the middle of Cassie’s next dilemma. Her feelings for Evan haven’t diminished. They’ve intensified, something she refuses to admit. Christine has done a great job in adding more twists and turns to the story that definitely leaves you craving more of Cassie and Evan.
While most of her family get less screen time than they did in book one, it’s certainly endearing to see those that do appear try their best to make things work with Cassie. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next for her and Evan. Will there finally be a resolution to their dilemma? Or will someone be hung out to dry when the time comes, I wonder?
