#Review: Scapulimancist – Charmaine Pauls
Ever since she came into her own power, Sara Graham has kept it a secret. Her gift is a forbidden art, one that allows her to communicate with any and every animal she comes across. A National Parks Board ranger, she’s promised herself that she’ll do everything possible to save what’s left of the elephants. Though many say the animals don’t exist, she knows they’re very much alive. Determined to fight for what she believes in, she soon takes a stand against those intent on tearing her world asunder.
Another wonderful addition to the Forbidden Arts series, Scapulimancist delves into the secrets surrounding what it’s like to communicate with animals. For Sara, she can never tell anyone who and what she is. The consequences of doing so are deadly, something she refuses to allow to happen by any means necessary. Mind you, secrets don’t stay buried for long. Nevertheless, she’ll protect what she deems hers, including the animals she communicates with and those she comes to love.
Charmaine has given us more of the world she’s creating surrounding these forbidden arts. If you haven’t had a chance in starting this wonderful series, I truly recommend it. Each book entails the secrets surrounding a forbidden art. Though each novel is a standalone, they provide enough detail to bring the reader up to speed on past books and their subsequent characters.
That’s what makes this series so wonderful. You learn about new characters and a new art, while having the rest of the cast from each prior book make appearances. Which character pops up in what book, you’ll have to learn that for yourself by diving into each Forbidden Art novel. Trust me, you won’t regret doing so.
Sara Graham has no idea what she is getting herself into when she uses her forbidden art to protect the near-extinct elephants and their habitat in the Knysna forest, South Africa. From the minute she sets foot in the woodcutters’ bar, she endangers her life. The gift hunters who would kill for her art are not the only threat. The wood smugglers will sooner murder her than let the National Parks Board ranger stand in their way. Falling for woodcutter and ex-convict, Wayne West, only further complicates matters. Can Sara trust a man convicted of the cruelest of murders?
Danger comes to town with a green SANParks vest and a tight body. Wayne knows Sara is all kinds of trouble from the first time he lays eyes on her in the bar. Alone, she doesn’t stand a chance. If he protects her, he will not only be branded as a traitor with the woodcutters, but he may also lose his job, and worse, his land. That is to say if they make it out alive. Even then, can he forgive her for taking the only thing he has left?
This book contains explicit language and consummated love scenes. Reader discretion is advised. Although this is Book 7 (ANIMAL) of the paranormal erotic Seven Forbidden Art series, the story also reads as a standalone. For best reading enjoyment and character insight it is recommended that the series be read in chronological order.
