Review: Reckoning – Molly M. Hall
For years, Katriona Matheson has had a secret to keep. She can see and hear ghosts. This fact has gotten her into trouble on more than occasion, but she’s done her best to pretend that there’s nothing wrong with her. She’s ignored the supernatural world that surrounds her in hopes of living a simple life. She wants nothing to do with the ghosts, and keeps hoping they’ll leave her alone, once and for all.
When her dreams take a darker turn, Katriona starts to question the world around her. At times, she wonders if there’s something she’s not seeing. Her visions have increased, and she keeps seeing something she knows she shouldn’t be there. Deep inside, she knows something isn’t right, but she’s not quite sure as to what’s wrong.
The arrival of a new neighbor further unhinges her reality. At times, he seems to be so familiar to her, yet she knows she’s never seem him before. Lovell, on the other hand, has been doing everything in his power to befriend her. Something, she soon realizes, begins to freak her out.
Immersing herself in her studies, and her new found relationship, Katriona tells herself that things might not be what they seem. Perhaps she’s just losing her mind. Unfortunately, she knows that’s not true. The darkness surrounding her is growing ever closer, tormenting her at every turn. If she’s to defeat it, she’ll need to embrace the powers she’s suppressed for so long. Unfortunately, she has no idea on where to begin.
This was such a great journey. It was lovely to see Katriona grow in so many ways. From a small child seeing spirits to a young woman determined to save her friend, I think she came a long way from beginning to end. The story sucks you in and doesn’t let go. Not even after you stop reading. Definitely looking forward to what comes next for this delightful series.
“They say the truth can set you free. I found out it can kill you.”
Seventeen-year-old Kat Matheson has never revealed the dark secret that sets her apart from everyone else: She can see and hear the dead. Until now, she has been able to ignore the strange apparitions and whispering voices. But it may not be that simple anymore. Haunted by eerie visions and increasingly frightening nightmares, Kat begins to fear she may be the target of a dark and ominous force from beyond the grave. Complicating matters is the arrival of her new neighbor, a young man she instinctively distrusts but is inexplicably drawn to. Gorgeous and mysterious, he seems to hold a disturbing knowledge of her long-held secrets.
As she desperately tries to maintain control, events take an unexpected and violent turn. Discovering that nothing is what it seems and that her psychic abilities may involve far more than just communing with the dead, Kat may be forced to confront her worst fears and the powerful curse that controls her destiny.
