#Review: Oracle Of Philadelphia – Elizabeth Corrigan
Carrie’s life has never been normal. She bears a power unlike any other. A power she wishes she could get rid off. It’s not because she knows about what it can do. It’s because she’d rather not know how things actually turn out. Known as the Oracle to many, she can foretell of things to come. Good or bad, she can see it all, and it sometimes wreaks havoc in her own life.
Determined to live the best life she can, Carrie immerses herself in her beloved diner. It might not be in the best of neighborhoods, and the food can be crappy on occasion, but it’s her own slice of Heaven. Part of her, however, knows that she can’t outrun her destiny. God knows she’s tried, but when you know anything and everything, people are going to come at you no matter how hard you try to hide from prying eyes.
Her life is soon turned asunder when she meets Sebastian, a good man who’s turned his life upside-down in order to save his sister. Carrie can’t fault him for selling his soul to a demon in order to do just that. He has a heart of gold, and it shows in everything he does. So much so, that it stirs her own heart, making her yearn to help him in every way possible.
Deep inside, Carrie knows she should let things go. That she’s shouldn’t give Sebastian the helping hand he seeks. Doing so means she’ll get into her own brand of trouble, but there’s no way she’s going to let him delve into the deepest darkest pits of Hell in order to achieve his goals. With no other option but to assist him, she soon comes to the realization that she’ll need to give up a good many things in order to come out on top. The question is, will she be able to retain her sanity, her freedom, and the person she’s now become once everything is said and done?
A wonderful start to what seems to be an awesome series, the Oracle of Philadelphia will take you for a ride as you strive to understand the goings-on between good and evil. A truly unique look at the machinations between angels and demons, Elizabeth delivers a thought-provoking story that leaves you wondering as to whether Heaven and Hell could truly be like what she depicts them to be. I’m certainly hooked, and look forward to what book two brings to the table. Trust me, you’re going to want to dive into this series, too!
