Review: Network Deserted – Jesse Kimmel-Freeman
Scarlet, Henri, Jennie, and Tony’s lives are soon to be changing. Their team is the best the Network has to offer. They’re good at what they do, and take great pains to achieve their goals. They’ve fought hard to be the best they can be, and refuse to bend to anyone’s will. So much so, that the Network now has other ideas as to how they may put their talents to use.
When an unexpected attack sends them into their higher-up’s office, the team soon realizes that perhaps it wasn’t unexpected at all. They’ve been chosen, and are to be sent to the Frontline, something neither of them truly wants. They’ve heard stories about what happens to those who go there. Surely, the Network can’t be that heartless? Alas, they can be, and they’re not afraid of letting the team know exactly where they stand.
Determined to not fall prey to the Network’s desires, the team soon decides to go rogue. Granted, this won’t be without consequences, but it’s either this, or die on the Frontline. They know going on the run is their only hope if they’re to succeed in putting a stop to the Network’s machinations. Unfortunately, it means they’ll have to side with those they were taught to dislike. Still, if doing so means they’ll survive, surely, it’s worth taking a chance, right?
Diving head-first into a world they never imagined, the team must now live with the consequences of their actions. Their lives have taken a very different turn, though they know the paths they now tread are a necessity. The Network must be stopped, and they’re the people’s only hope. But first they must learn to live with the powers they’ve been given in order to achieve that very goal.
Network Deserted has a very unique twist on all things fantasy. It sort of reminds me of Dungeons and Dragons with a little World of Warcraft mixed in. Jesse has taken pieces of all things supernatural, and given them different twists that allows you to immerse yourself in a world where not everything is as it seems. We find ourselves smack-dab in the middle of a turmoil surrounding a group of young adults determined in thwarting the plans of those around them. Will they succeed? It’s possible. Time will only tell.
I enjoyed the book very much. I do think the punctuation needs to be tightened a little in certain places. Overall, this is definitely an intriguing story, and I look forward to seeing what happens next with series. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye open for when the next book releases soon enough.
With the Frontline looming, Scarlet, Henri, Jennie, and Tony must find a way to escape the Network. Their only refuge could be siding with the enemy they have been trained to despise. What will happen when these trained teenagers must learn to exist with their most dreaded foes? The biggest threat to their lives will ultimately change them forever.
