#Review: Machinations – Hayley Stone
When the world fell apart, Rhona Long never imagined how much her life would change. Never once did she give thought to becoming the leader of the resistance against the machines. Though the possibility of dying always hangs on the horizon, she’s put measures in place to make sure the fight against the machines continues on.
Hayley Stone has written a wonderful debut novel about the world’s demise due to its carelessness with machines. Whoever thought the world would end because humans placed so much trust in something that should have been beneficial? Rhona and those she surrounds herself with certainly didn’t.
I love the way the author has crafted this story. In certain portions, some of what she wrote made me think of the Terminator. That’s how good the story is, mind you. She’s utilized everything she knows about science fiction, robots, and the world around us to create a world that’s lost and floundering because of the consequences behind its governments actions.
While this is just a story, it does make you wonder if such a thing could ever happen in our world. What if machines were to turn against us? How would we protect ourselves and those we love? Would we be able to overcome the uncertainties and the chaos caused by the machines?
A world full of what if’s and can we’s, Machinations draws us in from the moment we open the book to its first page. Rhona’s vulnerabilities and determination, as well as that of those around her, show us that no matter what happens, they’re willing to do whatever is necessary to survive. I can’t wait to see what Hayley brings us next with these wonderful characters.
Perfect for fans of Robopocalypse, this action-packed science-fiction debut introduces a chilling future and an unforgettable heroine with a powerful role to play in the battle for humanity’s survival.
The machines have risen, but not out of malice. They were simply following a command: to stop the endless wars that have plagued the world throughout history. Their solution was perfectly logical. To end the fighting, they decided to end the human race.
A potent symbol of the resistance, Rhona Long has served on the front lines of the conflict since the first Machinations began—until she is killed during a rescue mission gone wrong. Now Rhona awakens to find herself transported to a new body, complete with her DNA, her personality, even her memories. She is a clone . . . of herself.
Trapped in the shadow of the life she once knew, the reincarnated Rhona must find her place among old friends and newfound enemies—and quickly. For the machines are inching closer to exterminating humans for good. And only Rhona, whoever she is now, can save them.
