From the moment Ven took her first breath, she knew her life would never be the same. A mere clone of the wealthy Raven Rogen, she knows everything there is to know about the girl. Though they look exactly alike, there are things Ven does that sets her apart from the girl herself. Granted, she and Raven don’t quite mingle, but she is there and at the ready for whenever Raven needs her.

Living life as a copy of an Authentic isn’t easy. Ven has come to know this fact well. Though she does her best to hide her uncertainties, she finds it hard to do as each day passes. Secrets surround her and the girl she serves. Secrets that are bound to rip their lives apart in more ways than one.

When Raven’s life comes under attack, Ven is thrust into her place, forced to pretend to be someone she’s not. The secrets people have wanted to keep dormant are now coming to light, and she now finds herself at the heart of the conspiracy. Deep inside, she knows there’s more than meets the eye. If she’s to survive, she’ll need to delve deeper into what she doesn’t know. The question is, will she come out of things unscathed once things are said and done?

A wonderful start to the Clone Chronicles series, Imitation immerses you in the plight surrounding Ven and her counterpart, Raven. Both girls are the spitting images of each other. One is real and one is just a copy. While one stands on the sidelines waiting to do as she is bidden, the other lives her life without a care in the world. Once Raven’s livelihood is threatened, however, everything changes.

Heather did a wonderful job in creating the world her characters live in. I certainly felt for Ven when she had to become something she wasn’t, though I understand the circumstances that made her do so. The moral and ethical aspects of the story certainly make you think. I do wonder if Ven will able to overcome what’s definitely coming her way. Looking forward to more of her story soon enough.

Everyone is exactly like me. There is no one like me.

Ven wrestles with these contradicting truths every day. A clone of wealthy eighteen-year-old Raven Rogen, Ven knows everything about the girl she was created to serve: the clothes she wears, the boys she loves, the friends she loves to hate. Yet she’s never met the Authentic Raven face-to-face.

Imitations like Ven only get to leave the lab when they’re needed—to replace a dead Authentic, donate an organ, or complete a specific mission. And Raven has never needed Ven . . . until now.

When there is an attack on Raven’s life, Ven is thrust into the real world, posing as Raven to draw out the people who tried to harm her. But as Ven dives deeper into Raven’s world, she begins to question everything she was ever told. She exists for Raven, but is she prepared to sacrifice herself for a girl she’s never met?
