#Review: Here – Ella James
Ever since her father’s death, Milo Mitchell has lived a bleak existence. She can’t forget the goodness her father has done, and will do everything possible to uphold his memory. So much so, that she’s determined in finishing the project he was last working on. In her mind, it’ll allow her to do what he set out to do, and bring closure to the pain and heartache she feels inside.
When her first encounter with the deer goes awry, Milo finds herself feeling unsure as to what to do. An unknown boy now lies at her feet. Feeling remorse for what she’s done, she resolves to make it up to Nick in the hopes of deciphering who he is and where he’s come from. It’s the least she can do after shooting him by accident.
Determined to make sense of the strange goings-on around them, Milo resolves to keep Nick safe at all cost until he remembers everything he needs to know. Though there isn’t much she can offer him, she hopes her friendship is enough.
When things take a turn for the worst, she soon realizes there’s a lot she doesn’t know. The Department of Defense now wants to bring Nick in for questioning. If they’re to succeed in their endeavor, they’ll need to speed things up accordingly. The question is, how can they do that if they’re not sure where to begin in the first place?
A delightful start to this series, Here drops you smack-dab into the middle of Milo’s hectic life. She’s still smarting from her father’s death, hoping to make him proud somehow by following in his footsteps. Nick’s unexpected appearance certainly throws her for a loop.
Ella has done a great job in building a world where not everything is as it seems. A world where anything is possible. I look forward to seeing what the next book in this series has to bring. Will Milo and Nick be able to set things run in the long run, I wonder? Only time will tell.
Milo Mitchell’s life used to be charmed, but that was before her family dissolved, she went a little crazy, and her best friends started acting more like strangers. Spending Saturday morning in a treehouse with a stun gun for company and a herd of deer for friends is the only exciting thing in her life…until she shoots a fawn and finds her dart stuck in a guy.
Her gorgeous victim is dressed in a Brioni tux and armed with a hanky. He has no idea who or where he is. Afraid her dart caused his amnesia, Milo takes him in, names him Nick, and vows to help him solve his mystery. Soon the pair find Nick’s face in a newspaper obituary, and Nick beings to have strange, ethereal memories of Milo–who is sure she’s never met him. Suddenly Nick knows things he shouldn’t know and is doing things he shouldn’t do. When the Department of Defense shows up, Nick and Milo run–toward a shocking conclusion that could destroy both their worlds.
