#Review: Feast Of Fates – Christian A. Brown
Morigan has spent most of her life attending to the needs of a reclusive sorcerer, catering to his every demand. There are times she yearns for something more. Something that would give her life meaning. She’s knows she shouldn’t care about what’s out there, yet she can’t help herself.
Her curiosity is further piqued when she meets to the boisterous blacksmith, Caenith. The things he says and does are unlike anyone or anything she’s come across. Deep inside, she yearns to know more about him, especially when he starts to unlock the latent abilities she holds within her.
A lovely start to this series, we meet the quiet, yet resilient Morigan, who is intent on existing within the world she lives. The cards life has dealt her haven’t been easy ones, but she’s made do with what she has. Being a handmaiden for Thackery Thule sometimes tests her limits, but she refuses to let him get underneath her skin.
Christian has created such a complex and diverse story that you truly find yourself envisioning the characters and the places they visit. While this is a romantic fantasy story, it also has elements of horror and literary fiction. The blend of genres doesn’t detract from the story itself either. It enhances it. At least, I think so, anyway.
I enjoyed the author’s unique way of storytelling. It sort of feels like the reader is being enticed with every word written the more the story progresses. It’s kind of like a romance, both with the characters and the words themselves. You can vividly imagine what happens throughout the story, and you don’t lose yourself every step of the way.
The chemistry between Morigan and Caenith is apparent from the moment they meet. That sets a precedent for what follows between them. Things might not be easy, but they’re willing to make a go of it at trying to set all wrongs to right. Whether they’ll achieve those very goals, however, remains to be seen.
Morigan lives a quiet life as the handmaiden to a fatherly old sorcerer named Thackery. But when she crosses paths with Caenith, a not wholly mortal man, her world changes forever. Their meeting sparks long buried magical powers deep within Morigan. As she attempts to understand her newfound abilities, unbidden visions begin to plague her—visions that show a devastating madness descending on one of the Immortal Kings who rules the land.
With Morigan growing more powerful each day, the leaders of the realm soon realize that this young woman could hold the key to their destruction. Suddenly, Morigan finds herself beset by enemies, and she must master her mysterious gifts if she is to survive.
