#Review: Crane – Stacey Rourke
Ireland Crane never imagined that moving to the town of Sleepy Hollow would impact her life in more ways than one. She’s still reeling from a recent break-up, unsure of where her life will truly lead her. Determined in picking up the pieces of what feels like a wayward existence, she promises herself that she’ll make the most of what life now has to offer. Sure, things aren’t exactly what she’d pictured them to be, but she knows there’s always a silver lining to every dark cloud.
When unexpected situations crop up wherever she goes, Ireland soon realizes that something is definitely amiss. What she thought was only a legend seems to be coming true. Unexpected deaths are popping up all over the place, something she can’t quite explain. Heads and fingers soon start pointing in her direction. Granted, she knows it’s because she’s the town’s newest resident, but come on? She’s not a killer. At least, not that she knows of.
As secrets of the past soon come to light, Ireland comes to the realization that the stories about Ichabod Crane and the Horseman are definitely true. Though she’s not quite sure how’s she’s linked to what went on so long ago, she does know that she’s one of Ichabod’s direct descendents. The past and the Horseman seem to be catching up with her every turn. If she’s to undo the curse that surrounds her and the town of Sleepy Hollow, she’ll need to unravel her family’s secrets as soon as she is able. If not, the Horseman will have his due, and that she cannot allow!
I absolutely adore this book! It hooked me in from the moment I sat down to read it. Stacey’s writing style is quick to read and definitely pleasing. She spins a story that draws you in, making you want to discover what happens next with every turn of the page. Though I’m not sure if this book leads to a series, I surely hope it does. She did a brilliant job in retelling the classic tale of Sleepy Hollow while adding new and quite modern twists to the story itself. I wonder if Ireland will be able to rid herself of the Horseman’s presence now residing within her. That’s certainly a tale for another day, one I hope Stacey will tell soon enough!
The Horseman is unending,
his presence shan’t lessen.
If you break the curse,
you become the legend.
Washington Irving and Rip Van Winkle had no choice but to cover up the deadly truth behind Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. Centuries later, a Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow awakening macabre secrets once believed to be buried deep.
What if the monster that spawned the legend lived within you?
Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. Bodies are piling high and Ireland is the only one that can save Sleepy Hollow by embracing her own damning curse.
But is anyone truly safe when the Horseman rides?
