AHR Button Earth as we know it no longer exists. Everywhere you turn there’s death and destruction. The deadly Moonshiners wait in the shadows, ready to pounce on unsuspecting souls in order to curb the hunger that roils within them. Kill or be killed is the key to survival, something those remaining have come to know as each day goes by.

Realizing that life on Earth is no longer possible, the government has decreed that humanity must find another world in which to live, one that will make life very much possible. Unfortunately, not everyone will be granted that privilege, a fact that James Wilfred has been made privy to when he watches his girlfriend leave Earth on one of the colony ships. While the pain of never seeing her again does smart greatly, the fact that he was able to gain transport for a multitude of people lessens the hurt he feels inside.

James sets off on a quest to find an unfinished ship that may just be his, and his friends, only salvation. Yet he never imagined that he’d end up saving Skye O’Connor’s life or that of her boyfriend’s daughter. Refusing to leave them behind, he takes them along for the ride and is soon taken by surprise when he realizes he’s begun to feel things for Skye. Littered with obstacles around every corner, their path is far from easy. Yet James is determined to make the world a better place for them, as well as for those who are waiting for his return back at home base.

AHR BCWhile this is just a prequel for the A New Dawn series, the story is action-packed from the moment you start reading. Aubrie was able to paint a very vivid picture as to what the post-apocalyptic world her characters live in was like. She gave us just enough history surrounding the Moonshiners and the government’s decline without overdoing it. I look forward to catching up on the rest of the series soon.

After watching his love leave on a colony ship, James Wilfred must save those left behind from a planetary apocalypse. Their salvation lies in an unfinished ship tucked away in a secret government base, and only James can break in and pilot him and his people to freedom on a nearby space station.

Skye O’Connor’s boyfriend never returns after his gang attempts an assassination of the Governor, and the State Building is destroyed. Worse, crazed moonshiners addicted to the chemical Morpheus have stormed the city, and she must find a safe place for her and her boyfriend’s daughter. When a heroic man saves her, Skye asks to accompany him on his quest to find the last colony ship left on Earth.

As the city falls around them, James and Skye must work together to build a new future, all the while rediscovering their ability to love, before the apocalypse claims them both.
