#Read An #Excerpt From Unwanted Proposal By J. N. Johnson
Chapter One
“No wild parties, and no women in the house. Do you understand me, Caleb?”
“Yes, Lil, I understand. It’s not like I have any women knocking down my door to bring over, anyways. It will just be me, and old Jack here, alone until you get back. Now, go and enjoy your vacation.”
He leaned down, and kissed his sister on the cheek. He had never seen her happier in her entire life. Her grey eyes were glowing with love as she buckled her daughter into her car seat.
“If anyone deserves a vacation, it’s the three of you. After the whirlwind of a year you’ve had, some downtime in the sun will do you some good.”
“I still wish you would come with us instead of staying here alone. We could get Mom to watch Jack.”
Her eyes were pleading with him to go, but he didn’t want to be the third wheel on their vacation and plus spending some time alone sounded pretty good. Lilly had always been overprotective of him. Since their dad left them years ago, she had assumed the role of big sister and father, and had taken to protecting him something fierce. Every time he found a new girl he thought he could see himself with, Lil would scare them away with her questions or nagging, but that wasn’t the only reason he was still single. Most of the girls he knew were clingy. They would want too much, too fast, and scare him away.
That was okay with him. The only women he needed in his life were his sister, his mother, and his beautiful niece, Emma. With the hours he put into Winter Lilly’s Ski Shop, and the time he spent with his family, he didn’t have time for romance.
It hadn’t taken much of an arm twisting to convince him to stay, seeing as he was a twenty-six-year-old man still living with his mother. A long weekend’s worth of peace and quiet was enough to win him over, plus Joshua’s house was closer to Winter Lilly’s, the outfitter store he had part ownership in, than his mom’s.
“Man, she’s busting your balls for you to find a woman one moment, and then telling you to keep them out of the house the next!”
His brother-in-law, Joshua, was a great guy. He couldn’t be more elated that his sister had agreed to move back from Boise to marry the pain in the ass. It had taken them ten years to find each other again, and now that Emma was here, you couldn’t separate them with a crow bar.
“Josh, my man, I don’t know how you do it! All that estrogen in the house all of the time would have me pulling my hair out. However, I am thankful for the time Mom spends at your house. Since the baby was born, it gives her less time to harp on me.”
“Yeah, well, don’t get used to it. Lilly is planning on going back to work full-time in a few weeks, and that tiny ball of estrogen and pure energy will be staying at your house. Jan agreed to babysit.”
“No worries. If ever a woman is welcome at our house, it will be Emma.” Caleb watched Joshua close the trunk. “What time does your flight leave?”
“We have a few hours, but with bag check and security, I want to get there early. You have all of the phone numbers, right? Don’t worry about the shop. I cleared payroll and the schedule yesterday, so you should have an easy weekend.”
“Don’t worry about a thing, Josh. Everything will be fine. You’d better get going while the getting’s good.”
“See ya in a few days.”
Caleb waved goodbye to his sister, and blew his beautiful niece a kiss through the back glass. He was going to miss her tiny face while they were away, but he was looking forward to some peace and quiet. A nice relaxing weekend was just what he needed.

Synopsis:
Caleb Myers watched as his sister and brother-in-law, Joshua, drove away from Clearwater for a much needed vacation, leaving him to housesit, and take care of the family business. The idea of a long weekend of peace and quiet at their country cabin turned out to be a short-lived dream when a phone call from his employee at Winter Lilly’s Outfitters brings news of an unwanted visitor.
Riley Campbell wants nothing more out of life than to impress the pig-headed bosses who like to use her as client eye candy at her Houston law firm, and put her career on the fast track for partner. Nothing made her happier than legal battles and paper pushing, but when she is sent miles from her normal city life, and thrown into the country setting of Clearwater, Wyoming, she fears she may have met her match.
With an offer in hand to buy Winter Lilly’s Outfitters, Riley tries to convince Caleb to take the deal, but his good ole boy ways, country charms, and fierce loyalty leaves her wanting more than just his name on the dotted line.
