Read An Excerpt From The Secret Keeper
A tidbit from my CampNaNoWriMo project, The Secret Keeper. A little violent in nature, but I hope none of you mind. Enjoy!
A loud scream cut off any further conversation amongst the group. Julian bounded off of the building’s edge, landing square in the middle of the group fighting below. His gazed settled on a bleeding Lorelei, whom was held tightly against the chest of a man he’d never laid eyes on until now. While the thought of pulling her out of the man’s grasp was tempting, he decided against it. Now was not the time to pick a fight with someone who was doing his best to keep his woman stay alive.
He focused on the men clustered around the two of them, digging his claws into the nearest one. Blood spurted across his face as he decapitated him in one blow. Dodging to his left, he rolled underneath the arm of his newest attacker and quickly spun around to slice the vampire’s arm off at the elbow. The boy howled with pain, clutching at the bloody stump in hopes of keeping it from bleeding further while his body recovered long enough to heal it. His attempt was short lived as Julian punched a hole through his chest, the vampire’s still pumping heart sitting in the palm of his hand.
In the distance, Mara narrowly avoided Ava’s attack. The beautiful Amazon lunged toward her, her claws extended to their full capacity. The smaller woman darted just out of reach; her gray eyes alight with excitement. Twirling about, she cut off a portion of Ava’s right ear, licking her lips as she watched the blood pour down the side of her adversary’s face.
Ava howled with rage and stepped forward, the tips of her claws slashing across Mara’s chest. She ripped her t-shirt in the process, a satisfied smirk playing about her lips as she gazed at the deep, red gouges that now marred the once perfect skin. Mara’s smile faltered as she stared down at the spreading stain. Hissing loudly, she jumped into the air, executing a perfect 180 degree spin and promptly landed behind the other woman. Extending both sets of claws, she plunged them into her back with so much force that the tips now peeked through Ava’s chest. Ava stood there, dumbfounded, refusing to accept the fact that such a tiny woman was capable of such destruction.
Pulling her claws free, Mara dove between Ava’s open legs, reaching up to swipe her right hand across her crotch. Gasping with pain, Ava fell to her knees, her blood coating the ground beneath her. Rising, Mara raised her left arm and prepared to finish her off. The opportunity was taken from her as Hellman materialized before her and swung his katana about and lopped off Ava’s head as he walked past. Growling with frustration, she wiped her bloodied hands across her jeans and headed in David’s direction as he fought against Ava’s companion.
