#GuestPost: Writing A Romance Novel By Gracen Miller
Please Note: The review will be posted later on this morning once I get home from an appointment. Apologies for the delay.
I’m a paranormal romance author that likes to spice things up with some steamy scenes. So why’d I step outside my comfort zone and write Rockin’ the Heart…a new adult contemporary romance? Simple answer…my best friends made me! lol
For months my besties Kathryn “Kat” Grimes and Nely Cab (an author too) prodded me to write a new adult book. I rebelled against the idea because I write paranormal romance with a hardcore sexual edge. And I’m good at it! I really wasn’t sure I wanted to try and write a new genre. Neither was I sure I could pull off a contemporary new adult piece. I’m rather resistant to change too. It’s hard to push me out of my comfort zone and I’m as mule-headed as…well, a mule!
Kat and Nely nagged and nagged and nagged some more. 😉 Maybe not that much nagging, but I did feel the pressure. They thought I could do it and while it was nice they had confidence in my abilities, I wasn’t so sure. But I was stuck on my current book, so I started thinking “why not” at least I’d be writing and if it didn’t go anywhere, it wouldn’t be the first book. I’ve got probably a dozen books started and never finished. Usually I don’t make it past the first few chapters on a story that’s not working, but I hoped it’d kick start me back into my paranormal book.
Instead…I took to Rockin’ the Heart like Dean Winchester takes to one-night-stands or, for those unfamiliar with Dean, how Mother Theresa took to helping the less fortunate. I loved it! Loved it so much I wrote the entire book in under two months. That’s as close to a miracle as I get! I’m a slow writer, so this was an amazing experience and a learning experience. Amazing enough that I’m now working on book two.
And that’s how Rockin’ the Heart, book 1 of the Hot Wired series, came about. If you take a chance on reading it, I’d love to hear what you think!
Synopsis:
If music nourishes the soul…
Loved by millions, but shunned by blood, Heath “Fang” Fangor has led his band, Hot Wired, to the top while others have fallen by the wayside. He devoted his life to music, and from that devotion harvested a new family—his band mates and fans.
A man can desire nothing else…or can he?
Living in the shadow of her brother’s fame sucks! Sam Collins is desperate to have what she wants—a simple and uncomplicated life. She’s no stranger to scandals and how they work. Now that she’s inadvertently dragged Fang into the center of her latest gossip, could the scandal she created in her quest for freedom have gone too far?
Amid stardom the heart stages a new melody…
Fang has more fame and fortune than he will ever need, but none of that matters if he can’t have the woman of his dreams. Years have been wasted waiting for the right moment to approach the woman his heart desires above all others. There’s just one major problem…she’s his best friend’s sister. To have her, he will have to risk it all.
That might be responsible for Rockin the Heart!
About The Author:
Gracen is a hopeless daydreamer masquerading as a “normal” person in southern society. When not writing, she’s a full-time basketball/football/guitar mom for her two sons and a devoted wife to her real-life hero-husband. She’s addicted to writing, paranormal romance novels, movies, Alabama football and coffee…addictions are not necessarily in order of priority. She is convinced coffee is nectar from the gods and blending coffee and writing together generates the perfect creative merger. Many of her creative worlds are spawned from coffee highs.
