Interviewer: Hi, Seven. Thank you for joining us today. Would you introduce yourself to us?

Seven: Certainly. My name is Seven-Two-Four, but you can call me Seven.

Interviewer: (shuffles a couple of papers around and examines them) It says here that you’re one of the Conditioned. What is that exactly? You’re not contagious or anything, are you?

Seven: (laughs nervously and tugs on the edge of her shirt’s collar) No, no. Nothing like that. We’re just people born with unusual abilities. They keep us confined because it was felt that we were the cause of the breakdown more than thirty years ago.

Interviewer: So the Conditioned are perceived as threats to humanity?

Seven: (nods) Yes. In true retrospect, we are not. We just want the right to live just like any other.

Interviewer: It’s not your choice to do so, is it?

Seven: No. We conform to the wishes of our handler’s. In my case, I follow Madame’s orders.

Interviewer: Who is she exactly?

Seven: (shrugs) I know her only as Madame.

Embraced BCInterviewer: I see. (examines papers) It says here that you were originally scheduled to be put down. Why was that delayed?

Seven: (shrugs again and stares at her feet) My services were recently requested by one of Madame’s clients so that I could deal with ghosts.

Interviewer: Ghosts?

Seven: Yes.

Interviewer: (writes something down on the edge of one of her papers) What is it that you do?

Seven: (fidgets in her seat and stares at her fingers) I see into the netherworld so that I can locate otherworldly energy signatures and eliminate them.

Interviewer: (eyes wide) Excuse me?

Seven: Ghosts . . . I locate ghosts.

Interviewer: You were born with this ability?

Seven: Yes. I wouldn’t be a Conditioned, otherwise.

Interviewer: (smirks) Love your spunk, kiddo. Kinda hard to believe they want to put someone so young down. How old are you anyway?

Seven: I don’t know.

Interviewer: You don’t know?

Seven: (nods) I was found at the age of two. That’s all I know. They don’t tell us much about who we are or where we come from.

Interviewer: (clears throat) That’s sad. Tell us more about your abilities. How do they work in regards to reaching out to spirits?

Seven: (turns red) I draw the energy within me. It allows me to find who they are and what they’ve done in their past lives. I’m able to vanquish the drawn energy signatures this way.

Interviewer: Has anything you’ve done in the past ever back-fired on you?

Seven: Yes. It left me catatonic for a week.

Interviewer: I see. This assignment that has currently delayed your death, can you tell us more about it?

Seven: (shakes her head) Sorry. I’m not at liberty to speak about my current, or past, cases.

Interviewer: Not even a little?

Seven: Nope.

Interviewer: Interesting. (peruses her papers) Ben Lavelle is your current assignment, correct?

Seven: (eyes wide with surprise) How did you . . . ?

Interviewer: (laughs) I’m a reporter, honey. It’s my job to know. What’s he like? Have you been with him at all?

Seven: (turns red) He’s a client.

Interviewer: So? That hasn’t stopped anyone before.

Seven: We’re supposed to remain professional.

Interviewer: I bet. So have you?

Seven: (frowns and refuses to answer)

Interviewer: (sighs) Fine. We’ll come back to that one later. How long do the cases you’re assigned to take to clear?

Seven: It depends.

Interviewer: On?

Seven: How bad the manifestations are.

Interviewer: Oh? Do tell.

Seven: Sorry, but that’s classified.

Interviewer: (pouts) Aww, come on. Give us something worthwhile. I, and my viewers, want to know.

Seven: I’ve already said too much.

Interviewer: (gazes into the distance and sighs with exasperation) I guess that’s all we have time for, then. I’m looking forward to having you here again on our show, Seven. We’ll pick up where we left off soon, I promise.

Seven: Thanks for having me.

Interviewer: You’re welcome.

(Lights dim and the screen goes black.)

RR PictureAbout The Author:

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. We live in northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during the winter months.

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I’ve been told I’m a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you’ll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

I’d love to hear from you!
